What you’ll do
We are seeking an Animal Care Technician I for our Insourcing Solutions Department based in Cambridge, MA.
In the Animal Care Technician’s role, you will observe, monitor, and document the health and physical environment within the animal facility. Perform animal care and husbandry.
You may also be tasked with the following:
- Review, comprehend and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to laboratory animals for research.
- Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility.
- Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian.
- Dispose of animal carcasses following established procedures.
- Receive, inspect and put away incoming animals; ensure and provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.
- May be involved in strictly maintaining and following breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels.
- Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.
What you’ll need
Candidate will possess:
- High School Diploma required, General Education Degree. Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Biology or Biological Science preferred.
- A Minimum of one year directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility. Experience with disposable caging is a plus.
- AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
The pay for this position is $20.00 - $22.00 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
