What you’ll do
We are seeking a Animal Care Technician II for our Insourcing Solutions site located in Washington, DC.
In the Animal Caretaker role, you will perform animal husbandry duties including but not limited to preparation and actual changing of animal cages and related cage accessories of small and large animals, feeding and manual watering or monitoring/ testing automatic watering devices under minimal supervision.
You will also perform cage wash duties as needed. Prepares caging for cagewash, including scraping floor grids, breaking down caging and dumping pans or scraping cages.
Additional responsibilities include:
Use existing SOPs and quality assurance standards to perform daily animal health observations, as well as animal husbandry duties, to maintain quality and health of research animals.
Maintain accurate records of things like animal breeding, as well as housing or support areas, and you may also be tasked with receiving, inspection, and housing of incoming animals.
Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species, and you may become involved in the breeding and weaning procedures.
Other duties may include monitoring personnel and equipment entry into various rooms, as well as operating required equipment and general housekeeping, when required.
The following are minimum requirements related to the Cagewash Technician position.
- Minimum of two years directly related laboratory animal experience.
- Candidate will possess a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) preferred.
The pay range is $26 - $27 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
