We are seeking an Animal Support Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD. 

As the Animal Support Technician I, you will maintain and monitor the health, production and physical environment within the IS commercial and academic client animal facility. Perform animal care and husbandry, to include daily equipment checks; providing appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cage cleaning; recording animal health concerns, cage wash duties and sanitation. Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species and support to multiple client's lab animal facilities.    

Additional responsibilities include: 

  • Predominant area of support is cagewash and animal care to include, monitor animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations; animal husbandry duties to include: perform daily equipment checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changes, record animal health concerns, administer treatment as prescribed. Cagewash support includes, but is not limited to, process soiled caging/tanks and prepare new caging, ensure that parameters are met to meet sanitation, prepare and set autoclave loads to designated cycle, and maintain cage wash areas in a clean an organized manner. Animal care may include a variety of lab animal species.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas.  
  • Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility/attending veterinarian.  
  • Follow all procedures necessary to properly maintain animal housing areas, including room or facility personnel entry; personnel protective equipment use, and sanitation/decontamination of equipment and materials. 
  • Receive, inspect and house incoming animals. 
  • Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures. 
  • Sanitize, maintain, and repair caging materials as directed. Maintain cage wash facilities in a clean and organized manner.  
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
