ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment within applicable SOP’s, regulatory, and manufacturer guidelines. • Ensure proper installation and operation of machinery and equipment in order to meet qualification standards. • Perform troubleshooting activities on equipment as necessary. • Order equipment, replacement parts, and service as directed by the team lead. • Coordinate the repair of laboratory equipment by outside vendors. • Monitor freezer and refrigerator temperatures via the building automation system and assist with the issuing of deviations. • Assist with re-qualification validations to meet performance standards and protocols. • Utilize the CMMS to track and close equipment work orders. • Tag all new equipment and enter into the CMMS. • Participates in 24-hour on-call support for freezer/refrigerator as scheduled. Within these laboratories, this individual may support the handling of tissues and organs, trimming tissues, embedding, measuring organ weights; microtomy, slide preparation, staining; inventory and quality control, and shipping of tissues. Additionally, the technician may support euthanasia and sedation; animal procedures including dissection; collection of samples and weights; laboratory preparation, set up and cleaning; preparation of laboratory solutions. The technician is usually working closely with a trainer or buddy but becoming more independent.

What you’ll do

As a Waste Management Technician for our Maintenance team located at the Laval site, you will ensure any hazardous material is discarded according to all relevant rules and policies. Train and coach employees to protect them from dangers related to hazardous materials commonly used at work.

In this role, primary responsibilities include:

Ensure compliance as well as appropriate safety conditions of the hazardous waste storage room;
Inspect regularly the hazardous waste storage room to ensure the different types of dangerous products are properly separated (acid, basic, flammable, oxidizer, reducer, organic waste, radioactive, reactive, etc.);
Recover all hazardous waste containers from all internal departments;
Ensure the identification of the different waste containers is compliant;
Coordinate the recovery of hazardous waste and organic material with the different suppliers;
Clean up any spill that occurred during the operations;
Collect the different water samples for analysis.

What you’ll need

We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role:

High school diploma;
Knowledge in science/chemistry is an asset;
Good knowledge of WHMIS 2015 is an asset;
Regular lifting of waste containers of up to 25 kg;
Team player with a collaborative and positive approach;
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Role Specific Information:

Location: 445 Boul. Armand-Frappier, Laval, QC, H7V 4B3;
Transportation: Free parking. Near the Montmorency Subway. Electric vehicle charging station;
Salary: $24/hrs;
Annual bonus based on performance;
Schedule: Monday 6am to 2:15pm & Tuesday to Friday 7am to 3:15pm;
Permanent position as of the hiring, full-time 37.5hrs per week.
